Curriculum

Shabbat / Jewish Studies

We take great pride at Yal-Day-New to be guided by Jewish values and culture. Jewish values reflect our school’s identity and provide a framework for the education that we teach our students. With our weekly Shabbat celebrations, we sing songs and say blessings together, share our mitzvahs (good deeds), and discuss the importance of tzedakah (giving) that leads to tikkun olam (repairing the world).

Math

Our math curriculum begins with infancy and develops through to preschool. Mathematics is the building blocks for a child to critically think, reason, problem solve, and understand cause and effect. We engage in addition, subtraction, counting, etc. all around us daily within the classroom and on neighborhood walks. Our students learn patterns, sorting, measuring, and play matching games to enhance brain development.

Science

A child’s innate curiosity leads to discovery and exploration with the support and encouragement from their teacher. At an early age, children ask many questions including “Why” as they learn and develop. From hypothesis, observation, sharing, and experimenting with sensory materials, planting, nature, the solar system, etc. our students are introduced to many scientific concepts. We facilitate, encourage and create experiences to support STEM education in the classroom.

Social/Emotional Development

We play an integral role in our students social and emotional development at Yal-Day-New. Strong, positive relationships between the Teaching Team and our students help develop and influences trust, empathy, compassion, and a sense of right and wrong. Starting from birth, infants learn who they are by how they are treated. Supportive and respectful relationships provide young children with a sense of comfort, safety, and confidence. We guide and role model for our students on how to form friendships, share and care for one another, communicate emotions, and process challenges.

Music

At Yal-Day-New, we believe music is important to incorporate into all facets of curriculum. Playing music for infants proves that, even at an early age, children sway, bounce, or move their hands in response to the music they hear. Children naturally connect to music through play and exploration.

Art

Early art exploration is key to a child’s long-term development! We encourage our students to be enthusiastic about exploring art and having meaningful, learning experiences. Art engages children’s senses in open-ended play and develops cognitive, social-emotional and multi-sensory skills.

Physical Education

We focus on the physical health and well-being of your child as they grow at Yal-Day-New. We support and create opportunities with both indoor and outdoor play for our students to develop gross motor skills, coordination, mobility, and spatial awareness. Physical activity is essential for a child to grow and ensure they have a healthy body for a lifetime.

Toilet Training

We embrace toilet training and partner as a team with every family and student. At Yal-Day-New, we support a child’s emotional and physical development towards achieving this important milestone. Inquire about our “Potty Training” hand-out to collaborate together!

Enrichment Programs

Our enrichment programs are dedicated to enhance our student’s learning experience to inspire a well-rounded child through creativity, visual and hands-on learning, and guidance of new skills. Each program offers the opportunity to inspire character growth, self-esteem, and confidence to support a child’s individual development.

Hands on Hebrew with Ms. Angela

Hands-On Hebrew is an enrichment class to immerse our students with the Hebrew language. Morah Angela joins Yal-Day-New with more than 25 years of teaching her love and passion for Israel, Judaism, and Hebrew to many ages. Hands-On Hebrew promotes Hebrew as an integral part of Jewish identity in America. Morah Angela uses authentic Israeli books, music, and sensory activities to enhance a child’s learning of the Hebrew language through song, music making, stories, and play. With interactive puppets, our students learn Hebrew vocabulary words about the Jewish holidays, body parts, colors, weather, etc.

Jammin’ With You

Jammin’ With You’s music enrichment program offers an educational experience to children in the earliest, and most important, stages of development. The talented music instructor gets our students dancing, singing, and jamming – all while promoting healthy social/emotional skills and physical development. Powered by the original music of “Josh and the Jamtones”, songs touch on relevant topics such as imagination, family, and friendship as well as educational themes including numbers, colors, language and rhythms. Instruments are encouraged and used by our students to enhance their musical experience. We sing our favorite children’s songs and learn new ones too! We love our weekly live music classes to dance and sing along to with Jammin’ With You!

PuddleStompers

PuddleStompers is an outdoor science class that offers engaging, hands-on experiences for our students to explore nature! With active movement, sensory experiences, and visual materials, our students discover the mysteries of nature and connect with the natural world. We dig for worms, learn about ducks and geese along the Charles River, observe frogs and lily pads in their natural habitat, engage in gardening/planting, and explore our neighborhood parks. Fresh air and curiosity are the best combination!
