Art cultivates imagination and nurtures creativity, while enhancing a child’s critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
Early Art Classes
Early art exploration is key to a child’s long-term development! We encourage our students to be enthusiastic about exploring art and having meaningful, learning experiences. Art engages children’s senses in open-ended play and develops cognitive, social-emotional and multi-sensory skills. We encourage our students to reach their artistic capabilities by expressing themselves with free art and many sensory materials.
We teach fine motor skills by showing a student how to hold a crayon or paint brush. Students develop hand-eye coordination learning to use scissors with support from their teachers. Art provides critical learning opportunities that will enhance a child’s development through elementary school and beyond!
All of our classrooms are designed and inspired with art by our students.
Whether infants are scribbling with crayons, toddlers are experimenting with finger paints, or preschool students are engaged in a creative art project that correlates with the weekly curriculum theme…art is incorporated in many developmental areas and stages for our students at Yal-Day-New. Students participate in a daily art project to support and enhance their comprehension of the educational unit they are learning.
Art can be messy, and we encourage it! We help our students feel the materials, how they squish in between fingers, how colors change when combined, that glue is sticky…fortunately, everything we use is washable and age-appropriate for exploration.
